SS - Doug Murray: Welcome

Doug Murray has been at Delta since 2007, serving as the Mustangs’ Defensive Backfield Coach. He has an extensive background and has coached at several levels. Before coming to Delta, he was the Head Coach of the Stockton Lightning (Arena Football League 2). Prior to that, he served as an assistant coach at U.C. Davis, Menlo College, Chabot College and St. Mary’s High School in Stockton.


Coach Murray is highly respected in the coaching profession. In 2011 he represented Delta College as a speaker at the national convention of the American Football Coaches Association.


In addition to his on-the-field duties, the role of Assistant Head Coach entails a myriad of administrative responsibilities. Chief among them is Murray’s job as Recruiting Coordinator. He is a personable, tireless, high energy worker possessing great communication skills. Since joining the staff in 2008, his contributions have been substantial. As a member of the College’s Academic Senate he has been an articulate and tremendously effective as a champion for Delta’s student-athletes.


Coach Murray played his college football as a wide receiver at Allen Hancock College and California State University Hayward. He graduated with a B.A. in Sociology. He later returned to Hayward and earned a Master’s Degree in Public Administration.


Doug resides in Stockton. Doug has a daughter Naje’ who plays College Basketball for the University of Syracuse University and a son Nicolas who just signed to attend and play football for the University of San Diego Toreros.
